The first step in getting a bespoke or tailor-made suit is to schedule a consultation with a tailor. During this initial meeting, the tailor will get to know you and your style preferences, as well as take measurements of your body to ensure a perfect fit. They may also show you different fabrics and discuss style options for your suit.
After the consultation, the tailor will help you choose the fabric for your suit. This will involve looking at swatches and discussing different options such as colors, patterns, and materials.
Once the fabric is selected, the tailor will create a pattern for your suit based on your measurements and style preferences. This will involve drawing out the shape of the suit on paper, taking into account details such as the lapel, pockets, and buttons.
With the pattern created, the tailor will create a first fitting of your suit using a rough fabric called a "baste." This fitting is meant to give you a sense of how the suit will fit and allow the tailor to make any necessary adjustments to the pattern.
After the first fitting, the tailor will make any adjustments to the pattern and create a second fitting using the actual fabric you selected. This fitting is much closer to the final product and will give you a better sense of how the suit will look and feel.
The final fitting is where you will see the finished product. The tailor will make any final adjustments to the suit and ensure that it fits you perfectly. If everything looks good, you can take your suit home with you!
